Lahden kaupungin ja itsenäisen Suomen syntymäpäivät soivat Jean Sibeliuksen tahtiin. Koko yleisön esittämään Maamme-lauluun huipentuvassa konsertissa kuullaan Sibeliuksen rakastetuimpia orkesterikappaleita viulukonsertosta Finlandiaan.

Suomi täyttää 108 vuotta ja Lahden kaupunki pyöreät 120 vuotta. Kaksoisjuhlien konsertissa yhdistyvät perinteitä kunnioittava itsenäisyyspäivän ohjelma sekä Sinfonia Lahden kansainvälisen suosion salaisuus, Jean Sibeliuksen orkesteriteokset.

Näytelmään Kuningas Kristian II syntynyt musiikki ja siitä tehty orkesterisarja oli Sibeliuksen "ensimmäisiä menestysteoksia maailmalla. Samoihin aikoihin valmistui sortovuosien alati kaventuneita oikeuksia protestoitunut kuvaelmamusiikki; sen viimeinen osa Suomi herää tunnetaan nykyään nimellä Finlandia.

Sinfonia Lahti on jo vuosikymmeniä tehnyt yhteistyötä Sibelius-viulukilpailussa menestyneiden muusikoiden kanssa. Itsenäisyyspäivän juhlakonsertissa viulukonserton solistina esiintyy toukokuussa järjestetyn Kansainvälisen Jean Sibelius -kilpailun finaaliin yltänyt viulisti.

Konsertin kesto noin 1 h, ei väliaikaa.
